From what I have been able to learn, seems like it was only vehicles manufactured between 17th Sept 2024 and 21st Oct 2024 that may have been affected. Our car entered the manufacturing process on 20th Sept, so I am worried that it will be one with the B-Pillar made from incorrect materials.

Exactly what happened to me, except I bought our X1 end of Nov 24, got recall letter 10 Feb, same thing had to keep contacting dealer no help, finally said they had sent samples to BMW Munich , had to threaten legal action, suddenly got call saying our X1 was cleared and come and collect it. Dealer had the car for 5 weeks ! Have asked for some financial compensation, they actually suggested it, no word yet !

I thought I was alone on this one. Bought our new X1 at the end of October 2024 and received the B Pillar safety recall letter in mid February. My X1 has been with my BMW dealer since 19th Feb and is awaiting the results of the metal analysis. Dealer has been poor at keeping me informed, I have had to call them and request updates that have been few and far between. When I did get to speak to a service manager, they told me that if the metal analysis comes back as suspect, they will need to replace the B Pillar safety bar on one or both sides of the car. This could take approximately 15 hours for each side!! This sounds to me like major structural work and has me questioning the safety of the new vehicle I was sold. I believe that under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 we have the right to reject goods that are not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose or as described. I am hoping that this is one of these situations and if they need to replace the B Pillar safety bars then we can request a new replacement vehicle.

P.s… the original key might work if you change the battery. The door locks are not linked to the immobiliser or chip. The keys can be synced to the car doors once the battery is replaced.
-
The chip can be seen on these pics and its location. This needs to be near the ignition barrel or it won’t be read. the kit from Amazon worked well with mine. I’m sure you can only write to the chips and not rewrite, so it’s a one shot. I programmed it before getting it cut jut in case.

Hi I have a couple of problems with my 2009 x5 xdrive. 3.0d first of all. Should I be able to select neutral with the ignition on with engine but not started. Secondly, since I’ve been unable to select different gears or neutral I cannot get my car to start. I’ve changed fuel pump relay as not getting any fuel to fuel rail. Are used to be able to select a neutral with the engine off with this now stop the car starting

Sorry Stu, should have said I'm fairly tech savvy.

Thanks Dave & Stu, this is a big help, thanks. I have the original key which starts the car. The locking doesn't work, but I'm not bothered. I took it to a copy shop. The guy couldn't get a reading from the transponder. (That's the immobiliser, right?) So I said to him to make me a copy anyway. 25 quid. The copy operates the doors and the ignition but not the starter. So I now have a key with a transponder chip *SEE PHOTO* (I assume the red bit) and I need to copy the code from the original key and copy it into the new one. I did see a thing online but I don't know if it'll copy. https://www.amazon.es/-/en/gp/product/B0DY7VCTQZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A18I26BYARIXXP&psc=1

hi Dave, I had a look there and if its there I couldn't find it, the only other place it seems to suggest is to do with the BC button on the indicator lever but I have tried that as well and no joy, it may be that there is some sort of procedure which has to be followed in the right order but until now I am at a loss. cheers Paneuro.

Hi Norrimac. the key you had cut, did they programme the key to the ignition? They would have had to read the key from your car and remove the dme unit and circuit board from your car. the chip in the key is a small black rectangular thing about the size of a rice grain… this is what needs programming. what key reader was used? If the ignition key works, then the reader doesn’t. The key reader I use is actually an AK90… I can send you a link if you are tech savvy.
-
I would guess that you have a Blade cut to operate the door lock but it is just that a blade no chip in it. Stu knows more as he has done it but the Key reader should see the chip Do you have a working key that starts the car if so then it is the Fob which needs replacing and registering to the car Dave

Morning Bubba Are you telling us your indicated mileage has risen from 63000 to 180000 ? If that is the case then it needs some checking, BMW store mileage in 2 places the Instrument Cluster and the Footwell Control Module it could be that one or the other has been changed but not registered to the car correctly and now mileage has reverted to it's original or it could be the car was clocked at some time in it's life Dave
-
I have a e60 520d m sport my mileage was at 180,000 when I got in my car other day my mileage was showing 63,000 why is this???

Hi Stu, sorry I missed you reply, thanks for that. Seems I have an odd problem. The key reader can't read the existing key. Even though it works fine. Nevertheless, I got a copy made and sure enough, it doesn't work! Is it possible to disable the immobiliser?
-
Hi Dave, I thought you would dive into that one. I have found a reference to it in the book and it would appear its connected via the computer on the I drive but so far I have not been able to give it the kiss off life. i can follow the instructions so far and then nothing. I will keep trying and if your interested the first reference is on page 85 of my handbook . thanks Paneuro.

Kevmond started following ZF8HP service

Good morning all, So, having had my car for a little over 6 months I decided to give the transmission an overdue service. Parts obtained from Autodoc for £205 for ZF service kit, a fill plug & mechatronic sleeve (Just in case) Job wasn't that bad to do. I even found the source of an intermittant rattle from un undershield. Once done I cleared the adaptions & drove up the road, instantly the shifts were noticeably smoother, not that they were too bad before, just slightly less refined. ZF recommend it to be done at 60K I believe, my car has covered 79K miles. I might do just a fluid flush at 100K miles, we'll see...

Morning Andrew This is a new one for me as well. I can onlt think something under the gearstick is either not plugged back in or loose Dave
-
I have recently had a new clutch fitted and notice that it has stopped displaying on the dash which gear I'm in, or should I say when I should be changing up or down the gearbox. It doesn't bother me greatly but it was working prior to having the new clutch fitted. I have searched the handbook but so far I can't find any reference to this. Can anybody throw any light on this? regards Paneuro.

It certainly made a bang, it was no more than 30mph and was over so quickly hard to know exactly what happened. I think the front nearside went up and straight over the kerb then I corrected steering and and the back may have hit the kerb obliquely? It was also on a busy road so I had to get car clear as carefully as I could so couldn't stop. I'm so gutted about it and just hope there are no other problems but it is being fixed by BMW dealer so they should be doing it right.
