Hi all, does anyone know of a repair center for the 16:9 sat nav sceen and clocks. The pixels have gone so i cant read any messages, mileage or the trip computer on the clocks and the sat nav screen has stopped working so i have no sound.

The screen lights up slightly but has no picture.

i have read about the pixel ribbons but not sure if i have the equipment to do them,

I would appreciate some advice on this topic,

Cheers

Its a very fiddly DIY job, if you have fingers like Les Dawson then replace the unit, otherwise there are a few vids on YouTube ;)

I know. That's why I'm trying to find a place that will repair them. I've found a few but they don't seem too helpful when I've asked questions. Makes me wonder it their services is any good.

Find your local BMW "specialist" :) Quiz them as your average fella on the high street changing brake pads on a Daewoo Matiz has juuuuust as much experience doing such a job as you do.

I am a mechanic and have my own business but I've been told by our electrical suppliers that the sat nav screens are a difficult repair. I might attempt it and if I fail just get a second hand one. If I manage to sort it I could try and do a how to guid with pics. ;-)

A guide would be ace mate. You would help many many people out there with the same problem!

Give it a go!!! B)

Maybe its not the display ! I mean if the sound n stuff has gone then it won't just be that pesky ribbon... Could be the module... Just an idea ;)

I thought that aswell so I have managed to win one on fleabay. Hoping it will be here Friday. I'm still going to strip the old on and see what I can find.

Had ago at fitting a ribbon to mine & broke the new ribbon not to mention the pain it was stripping the clocks ( made so you can't take them apart)

In the end I sent the instiment pod to AKSeedo (08432893701) they are in Sterling. It only took 3 days from posting & getting back. Cost £60. Didn't pay a penny apart from postage to them, until I got my pod back & was happy with the repair. Then they sent me a invoice to pay by PayPal. Great service.

Hope this helps. Regards Ray

I've just got the new one and it still doesn't work. I've checked the wiring fuses and relays all ok. I'm told the TA needs bypassing and this could be the fault. What's that all about!

Have you checked the module near the battery? These have a habit of getting damp and corroding the board(s)... A good idea is to find a friend with one and swap over just to test !!

I spoke to a technician at BMW's quarry motors in Sheffield. He said the likely cause is to disregard and by pass the traffic assist module. Any idea where this is? He said it

is in the left side wall in the loading area or is it the one you have sent me in the image? Where do I by pass it to? Cheers

The left-side would hold the TM, Aerial amp and maybe Multi-CD changer...

The TM would have IN/OUT so loop these making it redundant. If I am right you can get a small bypass lead for it.

Hi again. I've got the head unit out, traffic master switch, cd multi changer, sat nav, two silver box's, amp and what I think is possibly the hands free kit. Still can't figure this TA bypass.

I think I've found the TM. Black unit with a blue plug and blue socket (joined together?) two black sockets and a loom. There was a black and purple wire broken and a grey wire which doesn't go anywhere? I've pushed the broken wires back into the plug and still nothing. What do I do to bypass it now? Cheers
