Hi, my Mini's thread has gone on the sump plug whilst in for a service at Mini Specialist Cars in Luton, and they are charging £208 to fit a Helicoil, is this right? after a bit of research most places seem to only charge £30. Thank you to anyone who can give me a bit of advice.

If the threads have gone on the plug then just that needs replacing !!

Threads gone on sump? Then helicoil or larger plug !!

DO NOT pay £208 for something they probably have caused/done anyway, you need to speak to the Manager as it should only cost £20-£40 to rectify including labour !!!

Jesus!! all they gotta do it drill and tap it, put another plug in.

If they broke it, they should fix it...kick off big time mate

Thanks for the replies, I havent tried the management route yet, my car is currently stuck at their garage, if it hade been anything else i could have just driven it to another garage, hopefully if I threaten legal action they may drop the price, they said they have to remove the sump and send it off to fit a Helicoil which doesn't make sense to me?!! Once again Thank you for your help :)

... Which would've been their fault ! :o

Put it to them that the mechanic has either over-tightened it or cross-threaded it (or both) !
