Hi folks,

I while ago I posted how my right side of my bumper was pranged and I had it
repaired it was ok until someone rubbed it again. It now also has a nice
paint removal on the passenger side courtesy of a stupid woman in an X5 who
didn’t bother to get back to me. No witnesses so no repair.

Anyway I managed to get an undamaged E90 bumper in the same colour similar
age for really good money. So I have a couple of questions.

1. Removing the old bumper.

1. Remove both taillights

2. Remove screws in the rear arches (3) and the screw on the edge of the
bumper near the top.

3. Remove all the screws on the underside.

4. Remove the screws under the tabs next to the lights where the black trim
is under where the boot lid sits.

5. Unhook the 4 tabs under the light fittings (2 per side).

6. This is where I’m unsure. There are 4 tabs per side on the
side on the bumper near where the metal starts. I have seen 2 suggestions
to remove the bumper. 1 is a sharp pull backwards frees it up and the
other is pushing the bumper inwards from the side whilst prying the tabs
downwards.

Please tell me it’s the pulling the bumper backwards as I don’t want to be

prying anything near the bodywork.

Second question is that my old bumper is pretty much structurally sound
apart from 1 paint removal, a small rise in the centre and the right side that
has been repaired. This was just a scrape that was sanded flat pretty
much it just needs prepped & painted.

Selling price?

If anyone is local to Glasgow i could have a chat about selling to you advantage being you can see it before you buy.

Thanks

Andy

I would still prise them as yanking it rearwards would probably beak a few small tabs !

Use something softer than metal like a credit card for example !

(if they "popped on" then they should "pop off" !!! ;) )

I have seen the shape of them it is designed in such a way that prying requires you to guess when the tabs are clear of the plastic hooks. The tab attached to the car are curling up & away from you.

A 6" steel rule would be thin enough to pry but I can't imagine being strong enough.

Thanks

Bumpers here.

i specifically asked the guy is there any damage. He said "No its ready to bolt on" I expect wee nicks and light scratches etc.

There is a small scratch which im not too bothered about. BUT.

Althogh the general condition is OK there seems to be a crack in the paintalong the top of the bumper. the wee shelf where the boot lid will meet the bumper. Im unsure if that could develop into something worse. The other big but is that on the drivers side there is one of the mounting tabs broken and one pretty much almost broken through. The passenger side has 3 broken and one distorted pretty badly.

Am i just being petty or should i send it back to him?

Thanks

Had a proper look at the paintwork apart from the crack it seems pretty good for a salvaged part. Probably better than mine lol. Mine has been dinged 3 times though. My only real concern is the tabs can anyone advise if this will be ok or if the can be repaired with a bit of araldite etc.

Appreciated

Thanks

I would've complained matey but hey-ho!

You'll stand a better chance with fibre-glass resin rather than "glue" ;)

yeah like i say i have not got back to the guy yet asking for a little advice on it. If you think its best to return it then i think thats the way to go. Im not overly happy about the tabs being broken after all thats what holds it to the car.

Take some pics as examples to show him why you're displeased :)

I shall, Ill post on here too.

There is a little damage near the light housings however i wont go nuts about that as its easily fixable with a touch up and polish and is small and reasonably inconspicuous. It was probably the courier mishandling it.

e-mail with photos sent. I did say i was happy that the paint work was ok but wasnt happy that the tabs are broken and wasnt sure that it would sit right on the car as a result I offered him the chance to swap it for another one if he has it.

Thats a shocking bumper just because of the tabs matey...

Fibreglass resin with small reinforcing rods would deffo cure them BUT you shouldn't have been put in that situation, regardless of it being second-hand... Return it for refund is my opinion, but if you can can a partial refund to cover repair then woohoo ! ;)

Would you be able to show me the ad, or a link to it?

It was an eBay special dabs. The ad simply said any questions ask. I did, he told lies. I have contacted him and I'm waiting for a reply. Ill give it a few days and complain.

Thanks for the reply and advice mate.
