hi all new to this, had my e46 m3 now for just over a month and loving it :D ,

after some advice on which air intake is the best for it, I no all about the carbon csl, thinking more on the lines of k&n/pipercross/ or bmc.

Hey Gav,

Performance air filters all produce the same rough result.

You would need your exact car, all the different brands of air filters and a rolling road in order to make a decent enough hypothesis that would sway your decision. We don't have all those things so.... my advice is to stick to big brands and try get a good price

Eg:

Pipercross panel filter: £41
K&N panel filter: £37

K&N would be the one at the bottom of my shopping basket......

I've never really toyed around with induction kips but panel filters I have. They have the same effect

"Cold Air Intake" theory has been disproved. Make no difference where you position the feed, hot air from the engine bay is "Warm" at best and really only messes with like... 100th of a HP lol

I'm putting an induction kit on my M50 E28 but that's because I'll have to modify the airbox to fit in the car anyway! haha might as well shuv a cone filter in it :P

Either way, the noise emitted by the air being sucked through the nice sponge material of the cone/panel is hypnotic haha! Worth it

As Daz says, Panel filter is cheaper than the induction kit with just as much gains. Ive got a Pipercross in mines, but thats purely because Ive always used those ones. So K&N or Pipercross, probably just comes down to cost

So iv been playing I got a direct replacement k&n panel filter cost £38,not much different from the paper filter apart from my mpg was much better. befor I was getting around 21.3mpg it went up to 23mpg great. I have just fitted a new carbon csl air intake system (wow). it stung my wallet but well worth it, the sound is awesome not looked into the mpg at this moment, but hell it gives you a even bigger grin!!

Well using more fuel down to 20.3mpg . think this is only because iv now got even more of a lead foot, since the csl intake

This is because the ECU/DMU is compensating due to the different signals sent by the MAF !

If you going to do the exhaust as well as the intake its a good idea to get the ecu mapped so that the fuel/air mix is correct, you don't want it to run lean.
