Hi

I have just bought a 1997 bmw 740 (replacing my 728 which I had great service from over the last 5 years). New Car seems to be very good, but a tiny problem is that the from demister or blower, needed to clear a misted windscreen doesn't work, and it's a huge problem on damp mornings. My last car had a fantastic version, which cleared the screen in a few seconds. can anyone please advise as to which fuse would be worth looking at? Or any other advice would be most welcome. Just to say the push switch on the dash has a light on, but there is no blast of air. I am hoping its a fuse!

Hey Chas, welcome welcome mate

Wonderful Wonderful choice of motor. May indeed be electrical/control problem from the switches which if similar to my E38, were digital from the centre console.

Does all the other blowers work?

CHECK ALL THE FUSES! :D Fuse trays in the boot and engine bay

As Daz said could just be a fuse hopefully, not sure if the 7 series has similar issues as the 5 series like the fsr (final stage resistor) which can affect the heater system.

      E53 petrol fail safe again.

      Right… changed the throttle body, now goes like stink… didn’t start… new battery, now starts and goes like stink…. now drops into fail safe and says the idle valve is mechanically stuck open. where is it, how much is it… can I kick it?

      3.0i starter motor

      I stand corrected…. It wasn’t the starter. I could hear it clicking so checked the battery, amps were about 10… new battery and fired straight up…. So much for Halfords and yuasa battery testing! ….now to the next issue…

      I recently had a problem with my bmw x1 2012, failed to start,fault code came up , got the foot control module and battery replacement, not even two days of driving the car won't start again and the engine light is on .mechanic is now saying it's the starter

      Many thanks for the help I've hot the car booked in for a full health check but it seem that the transfer box oil as not been changed for nearly 3 years so I'm hoing to do that first to see if it helps

      hi , I had very similar problem a while back, and after a lot of testing with vista, it turned out to be a front R/H wheel , speed/wheel sensor. when it all was happing lots of codes were coming up gearbox, diff front and back, transever box,plus many more, didn't look good, but there was one code that repeatedly came up at the top of the list, at this point it was becoming undriveable ,it just didn't seem that a wheel sensor could cause all these codes. So I went got two wheel speed sensor, replaced driver side front, the problem never came back, the sensor controls so many systems ,cleared all codes, happy days, I could have pulled the car apart for nothing, and got nowhere, except an empty wallet. hope this helps you or someone.
