Yellow Oil Warning Light Comes On For A Few Seconds After Starting

Featured Replies

BMW 330ci E46 coupe

When I start the car the red oil warning light goes off almost straight away about twenty seconds later the yellow oil warning light comes on for about 10 seconds then goes off and don't come on again until I stop and start the car again there are no nasty noises its not using/burning oil its running ok etc. It is due an oil service in about 5000 miles time. can anyone give me any ideas what may be causing the light to come on.

many thanks

Steve

hi. one idea would be to first check your engine oil level then take it from there'

Welcome Steve. I don't like oil lights! I had a Vectra years ago which the oil light came on when I went round tightish corners.Turned out to be low oil pressure so not picking up and circulating properly. I'd be inclined to get it properly checked out asap personally.

Could be a few things matey. As Dilly suggested, could be done to oil-pressure but, it's best not to guess these things when you have a car new enough to be scanned. Get it to a specialist bud

Thanks for the advice I will get it looked into.

my 1997 328 has done the same thing for the last two years, and yes I have checked it has oil in it. I went on another website and the consensus of opinion there, was that it was a faulty warning light or some such !Removed!. Anyway, apparently it's quite common. I'm sure a quick Google search or look on a 46 fanatics will confirm this information. As I am a cheapskate and well-known for my propensity to spend it not a penny unless I have to, I will continue watching the yellow light. Yes it is annoying, can be worrying, but as I said my car has been doing it for two years and it still drives perfectly well.

Best wishes
