Hi,

I am new and was trying to search for any topics on X5 3.0D gearbox issues. I had nothing returned in the search so have started this new topic. I have had a failure and need to get a quote for a rebuild. I live in Northern Ireland but am trying to find out if this is a common issue and what experience other members have had etc. It's an expensive rebuild on an old car (2003) so I am trying to ensure I'm not overspending or doing the wrong thing before I commit.

Any experience, feedback or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jez.

Sorry, no bad experiences to share...

How has the box failed? This would determine whether its serviceable or needs replacing ;)

"Serviceable"... Yes, from what Mr.Jim has said, there are quite a few parts within the tran that are serviceable.

Example. When servicing an automatic transmission, not only can you replace the filter but you can also service a sequence of "Valves" that can become stuck over time. These often relate to the transmission not being able to find a certain gear or the gear becoming stuck. cheap fix for such a big problem.

Please get this transmission looked at by a transmission "Specialist" become any further decisions are mate. By looked at, I mean... they pull the sump from under neigh (Providing it's auto)

ow, also... a 2003 model BMW is only considered "Old" relative to a newer car. There is plenty plenty PLENTY of life left in a 2003 BMW. Don't nail the coffin shut yet matey
