I have a year 2000 E46 318i SE. I have a slight oil leak which appears to be coming from the top left hand corner of the front cam cover (as you look at the engine with bonnet up) . I am hoping that it is the front cam cover gasket that has failed and not the head gasket.

.

For those that are familier with this engine, the leak appears to be coming from the nearest point where the cam cover gasket comes closest to the head gasket. (top left hand corner)

The head gasket has been replaced about 30k miles ago. so I am assuming that the head gasket has not failed.

.

Is it worth replacing the front cam cover gasket to solve the problem ??

I assume that not many people will sanction the use of an oil stop leak product to solve the problem ???

Kindest Regards

Steve H
