Hi

So my electric steering rack on my E92 has gone which causing stiffness in steering and a warning light on the dash board, took it to my local mechanic and part of the plastic connecting the battery power to to the steering rack motor was totally corroded which requires whole rack to change.

Quote from bmw for a new rack is £1000 no including labor, my mechanic advised to buy one from a breakers yard so found one which costs £260 so bargain. However when he came to fit it in today the car computer doesn't want to accept it and keeps going, he said it might need programming from the Bmw dealership.

Has anyone come across this before? Is it possible to install a used rack? Also can anyone recommend a mechanic in Sussex that is Bmw approved and can do this job?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
