Hi, i bought a 2004 325 ci auto 2 months ago. It has only covered 28000 miles. Happy days until the transmission cog light piped up one morning and sent the car into safe mode.

I read the horror stories on the forums and noted that 1 chap said after spending a fortune trying to resolve he was advised that a week battery could cause this.

with this in mind i have observed that when i turn on the ignition without starting the engine in the morning this will occur, If i start and re-start the fault doesn't clear, But after a couple of miles a re-start clears cog light and limp mode. also were i have been using it allot of late i have not had any re-occurrence. Ive plugged it in and the computer has not stored any fault codes. it has never done this mid drive either. Could it be something this simple? I know ultimate the proof is in the re-placement of the battery but i was looking for a bit of re-assurance from any bmw owners with technical knowledge in this field. one other thing, the temp gauge reads half way on the dash but the actual temp at the water pipes are around 93c, the car seems happy and sits at this temp on a constant but is this how warm they run as a mechanic said to me this seemed a tad hot in his opinion. thanks for your time, Gregg.

No idea about the battery issue but I have 330 and was at first worried that it ran hot. Within just a couple of minutes the temp gauge is at half way point but it never goes beyond. I think the 6 cylinders are just very hot engines. My mechanic works on a few different bmw's and he said to me they are all the same
