Warning for 1 series owners, check the condition of the can shaft pulley, the pulley has a rubber centre which on my car disintegrated on starting the car on Sunday morning, luckily I was parked at my sons house although 2+ hours away from home, AA were great, BMW have been good enough to repair the car a few weeks out of warranty.

My car is a 2011 model with 55000 miles, I was relatively lucky I don't want to think about this happening on a busy motorway, I'm told this fault has effected numerous manufacturers who fit a pulley with a rubber centre.

a great car let down by I guess a very inexpensive but critical part
