hello all lofty here

Does anyone know why my e92 320d coupe keeps flagging up that it needs a new battery, i have had the battery tested and there's nothing wrong with it, yet it keeps dumping my clock settings every day. its been doing this now for over a year. I am reluctant to take it to main dealer as they want silly money and as i say the battery is as good now as it was when i bought the car 3 years ago it starts first time every time even when its freezing cold as it is today.

If i change the battery myself do i have to tell the ecu its had a new battery if so how do i do that ?.

I would be grateful for any advice

kind regards Lofty

If the battery proven good then it must be either a module, wiring or fuse issue... Damp, poor connections etc

Thanks Dabsy

Thanks for the advice but all seems well in battery compartment, no damp or loose connections as soon as i get a chance ill buy a new battery from discount shop and see if that makes a difference. At least it will rule battery out, does anyone know if i have to tell its brain its had a new battery and if so how ?.

"Condition based service" bah humbug.

regards

The ECU doesn't recognise new batteries however, anyone can tell you that BMW's are finicky if the ampage is insufficient or drops !!

I use slightly higher rated batteries, for example if the standard replacement battery was a 680CCA then obviously bob a 700CCA or thereabouts, not much higher though or the alternator will complain and ask for overtime pay

Have your current battery stress-tested first, it may not be the fault but at least you'll know ;)

If you decide to get a new one then charge the old one and store it in a dry place for a week and check it again ;)
