I have just had a vaccum pump, rocker gasket and 2 plunger seals fitted
to my BMW 318i MSPORT from a BMW specialist becuase i could smell a
burning smell coming through my AC vents, after having this work done im
only getting a light smell when i pull up at junctions or when i get
out of the car around the wheel arches. Could this be due to excess oil
that has spilled out onto the exhuast and engine before getting the work
done?

I would say so... Try degreasing the engine and underneath the car (as oil droplets will make there way backwards due to travel) ;)

As long as the smell IS burning oil, it'll be fine as mentioned above ;)

On the other hand... If the clowns at the garage didn't do it right then they may have left a leak !!

When i first got the AA to come and check it,he could see alot of oil laying on the underneath and the exhuast so it could be down to this blowing back onto the exhuast while driving. Hopfully thats all it is.
