Hi All,

I have just recently bought a 530d. Its a 2003 530d e39 with 114k on it.

Car in question:

I have already changed filters including crank case oil breather,

I have Mobil 1 oil coming home today and will be changed tomorrow,

I have sorted all sensors that were faulty,

I have changed the Angel eyes to white LEDs,

I am going to look at and if not done yet remove the swirl flaps.

Anything else i need to do? I looked at decat-ing and EGR delete but these seem to have very mixed reviews.

Decat seems to make a lot of cars fail their MOTs on emissions and if it is welded in then its not a quick swap over come MOT time.

EGR delete is controversial in that some people say it doesnt help, its bad for the engine etc.

Others say it helps the engine not to breath its own crap and it has improved economy and response, especially when cold.

I dont know though. I am in 2 minds about those.

Im not bothered about power, responsiveness or MPG (not because i dont care but because i am happy with how they are at the moment). My main concern is the cars health and reliability.

Any thoughts on what i should do from here?

If you leave the DPF in , take it out for a regen, smash it round the motorway for about 40 mins or more, have a decent amount of diesel in the tank. that way you know its not overdue one and you get to have a nice drive in ya new motor!

I was going to get my DPF out but so many indies have told me not to bother, as the MOT laws are getting tougher soon but until it goes wrong leave it be.

Hi, buy the sounds of it you are heading in the right direction keeping ahead of any necessary maintenance needed, I have fitted both de-cat and EGR blank to my 525d I have noticed a mild improvement in economy and power, it passed the MOT with flying colours mine had 4 "cats" but now only has 2.

I would recommend using some fuel additive every now and again to help keep things healthy.

Quite agree with you John...get rid of the emissions related equipment it was only ever fitted to allow the manufacturers to produce vehicles that met the Euro Cat requirements.

After that, its not really needed...ditch the exhaust acoustic valve (if still present in the rear silencer) the EGR and any Cats in place.

If an engine is running extremely well then its all unnecessary
