I'm looking to buy my first BMW - hopefully a 3 series touring, new-ish shape, but under £5k- so 2006 or 2007 likely. I don't think I do enough miles to really warrant a diesel, to be honest I don't mind the engine - I'm open to any as long as the car looks decent and is within budget! But I'd like to know if there are any to be avoided?

The general shape I know didn't changed much during the lifespan of this mark, I;m guessing perhaps bumpers changed on the later models of this shape? The worst thing that stands out about early ones of this shape is they always seem to come with dated looking wheels, I'm imagining buying replica 18's to improve the look.

Any tips for a potential buyer? There are some clean looking touring's on autotrader right now cheap-ish.

Thanks
