I have just been quoted £275 inc vat for my first service (oil change) at my local BMW dealer. I have been to a local garage I know I can trust and he has quoted me £144 inc vat. They told me the parts they use will be genuine BMW so the warranty wouldn't be hindered. Just wondered if this is something that has to be done at a BMW dealer or can be done anywhere?

You can take it to any registered garage and as long as they use genuine parts it will not affect the warranty. Same for all makes of cars. I suspect this is the case because of the Office of Fair Trading Act.
