Hi Everyone,

I have been driving mercs for the last 7 years or so but last week got my first BMW. A 54 plate 645ci and so far I am wishing I made the move years ago.

The car seems fine as in all the service checks are clear with nothing needed for quite a while.

The only thing wrong is the idrive that is a bit glitch and may need changing.

I guess if I pay the £1000 or so cost I will get the latest version does anyone know?

hi mate, should add some pics!

iDrive upgrade shouldn't cost anymore than £450 ish depending on what version you got. Im about to get mine dine by local guy who advertises on ebay.

the upgrade idrives are much better in my opinion. cost wise 600 approx, with programming ^_^

Thanks guys. If anyone knows a good guy who works in South Est, please pass on any details/links.

The £1000 figure was a BMW specialist. He said new unit is £700 plus vat and £160 to fit so that's where I got the grand from.

if you search for "combox retrofit" on ebay or somewhere you should find someone. by me (dartford) theres 2 guys both quoted £450 for the box and all coding + sat nav update

If you could please send me details of the guys near you I would be happy to make the drive and save all that money.

I have tried but cant seem to find anyone in Sussex and Kent isn't that far away!

      Hi, Does any one know how to access the Battery terminals on BMW 1 Series 2020, 118I. The battery is in the engine compartment and the red cap is visable, however I want to connections from the battery terminals? Many thanks.

      Rough idle problem

      Hello Dave, Just an update and I think you may be right. Went out and gave it a few revs when cold, nothing. Let it warm up and there was a loud “shoooo”. I’ve attached a photo of where the sound was coming from. Going to get it looked into but do you have any idea of what it could be? First BMW, always had vag cars so engine are a little different to what I’m used to

      Rough idle problem

      Hello Dave thanks for your reply, thanks for the reply and it does sound like that could be the problem. I was thinking injector but never pops an engine light up so wasn’t certain. Was serviced 6500 miles ago but was just oil and filters. Going to check later and see if I can see any visible cracks or splits. Got a friend who has a garage and will obd and smoke test it for me.       E53 petrol fail safe again.

      Morning Stu Long time since I played with a straight six so the old memory might be wonky here so check realoem From memory it is linked to the Air Pump and Vacuum control system. Find the Airpump and follow the Vac lines to the rear of the engine you should find a valve with a plug on top (or end) first make sure all lines are good no splits or cracks check the valve is operating, dont forget there is a non return vale in the system close to the inlet manifold.
