Hi,

Im still relativity new to the 'BMW Club' having brought a 318i saloon 6 months ago as our family car. After a holiday in it, and 2 small children me and the mrs decided we could do with something slightly bigger, so i started looking at 3 and 5 series tourers...but the occasional 7 series popped up in our price range. I have found a 54 plate 728i with 20k genuine miles for £5k...i instantly phoned it up and its an older mans who had it as a second car because he could.

Now me and the mrs really like it, but as its an absolute tank how much is it going to cost to run, we do between 7-10k miles a year. My 318 gets me around 375 miles to a tank (£70) around town but is pretty good on a run (around 450). But i also have to take into higher servicing costs on a larger car? and tyre prices.

Any help and advice would be great

      Power steering issue

      Morning Charlie Welcome to the Forum I would guess either you have trapped the wiring or pulled a plug to the power steering somewhere. The only way is to back track all your work and check. Assuming that you have checked fuses and the power steering motor ? Good Luck Dave

      Power steering issue

      I have recently replaced my wastegate on my car and now I have lost my power steering cannot control the car at all. Any ideas why this has happened

      Instrument cluster suddenly died

      Hi Christopher I have never used a Haynes Manual so can't comment on it's information. I work from BMW ISTA/INPA with it's WIS and TIS plus a few other sources (An old neighbour is senior management level in BMW) My Diagnostic Program using your Vin tells me your car is a BMW E34 Saloon 525i RH Drive Auto M20 Engine Manufacter Year 1989 Nov Now the fun part your Model used capacitors not batteries apparently (top right of the cluster I am told) they can be replaced and no recoding to avoid a Tamper dot by the miles recorded. First check is does your cluster have a Grey back if so it should be straight forward (I am told, never done it myself) Apparently the same cluster was used in the 7 series and can be swapped but then you will either need to move the coded plug (Brown Cable) needs swapping or re-code the cluster If the back is Black or another colour replacement is the way to go I don't know if this helps or not Dave

      PDC parking error

      Hi, my first post and would dearly like some advice please. The other day, had the dreaded 'bong' sound and an error message on the screen saying the PDC system wasn't working along with the PDC button flashing green. After hitting OK the parking screen shows sensors, front and back greyed out. So far I have... Checked the fuse which is fine. Cleaned the sensors. Listened to all sensors. No sound coming from any of them. Inspected the module in the boot. No water ingress, no corrosion on the contacts and no dirt or visible damage to the board, looks perfect. The fact that no sensors are making any noise makes me think its the module but as I say it looks perfect. Are these easily checked? Unlikely that all 8 sensors have failed simultaneously or indeed the front and back wiring looms. Any experience of similar or advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance
