Hi all

Currently considering buying a 2007 1 Series 118i. 69k on clock.

i understand that this has the N43 engine which was plagued with timing belt failures due to weak timing chain tensioner.

can anyone actually confirm if BMW issued recall for this model/engine?

im trying to get owner to see if the time chain tensioner has been changed by previous owner but as yet unknown.

if it hasn't already been done can anyone confirm approx. costs for the work needed? Is it an engine out job? Does chain need doing also?

if there was a recall and it's never been took I'm guessing that there's no way BMW will do it now?

cheers

Mark

Yes it's a common fault on the N43 engine. There is a modified tensioner that can be fitted - think it's around £30-40 to purchase.
