HI,

I am new to the forum so not exactly sure how it works yet.

I am looking for some help/advice regarding my airbag ECU and would be grateful if anyone is able to offer some support.

My car is a 1999 Z3 2.0 auto. It has never been in an accident but about 8 months ago the airbag light came on. The car has been in storage for the winter but when I was driving it last week the drivers airbag went off (fortunately I wasn't hurt). My local BMW specialist (not a main dealer) has advised that the airbag ECU needs to be replaced as it is not advisable re-programming it due to the fact it has already triggered the airbag for no apparent reason. I am happy with that so started to look for a second hand unit. The original part number is 65-77-6908896 but I have been unable to find this anywhere other than the main dealer who wants the earth in exchange.

One online broker has an alternative part which he states is interchangeable with mine, the part being 65-77-8386131. I have checked REALOEM.COM and true enough my part superseded the part that the broker has, furthermore REALOEM.COM states that the parts are interchangeable. My concern is that whilst a whole host of Z3 models are listed as having been fitted with both of these parts mine has only ever been listed as with the new version. Will the older part be compatible with my Z3?

Can anyone please help and advise?

Regards

Mark
