Boot problem

Hi guys new member needing some advice.. I've just bought my X5 09 plate and the boot doesn't open with the button on the key, is this model fitted with automatic opening? Thanks for any help.

Welcome the the Forum

Is your car an E70 or E70 LCI ? When you say the boot doesn't open do you mean power open or it doesn't unlock? If your car has the power open option then there will be a close button on the tail gate it's self. If you have the simple remote unlock (all do) then I would suspect the micro switch in the tailgate where the lock/number plate lights are as they are known to suffer from water ingress. If you have the power open option I would be checking all fuses, I would also get the codes read to check for faults..If your key is functioning as it should in other respects that would be low on my suspect list, if you have more than 1 key try them all.

Hi mines doesn't have the auto close button on the inside so I guess I don't have the power open option. Thanks for your help.

      hairline crack in coolant reservoir

      Morning Paul Unfortunately BMW as did many other manufacturers started fitting plastic parts not just externally but also internally and with many heat cycles they become brittle as they age I have seen the the Header tank on a friends Mercedes his was just under the cap around the neck so only showed when the engine was really hot. When I rebuilt the 4.6 (plastic chain guides Failed) I found several coolant "O" rings in the coolant system were starting to weep. BMW wanted to sell complete hose assemblies but many of the parts I sourced were from the USA (Dinan) new Cams,Throttle body gasket sets amonst them were a set of Viton Coolant system "O" rings worth checking those as well.       hairline crack in coolant reservoir

      HI all, having previously reported on the hairline crack in the oil filter plastic cup holder that resulted in massive and sudden oil loss albeit at low speed with a cold engine which thankfully didn't result in a lost engine, I have again experienced the same issue but this time in the coolant reservoir. Looks like the same kind of plastic material but I could not testify to that, however I knew I was losing coolant slowly and on closer inspection the garage has determined a hairline crack in the plastic reservoir vessel. The car is 19 years old this year but you don't expect such structures to fail in my case with with two, oil filter holder and now the coolant reservoir it does look like the these plastic parts are suffering under pressure cycles for sure. Does any one else have any similar experience, as I cannot see any other contributor to such failures, no sunlight exposure, no impacts, just pressure cycles? Looking forward to the experience share.       BMW 3 Series M Sport Steering Wheel Question?

      Morning Anthony Welcome to the Forum As long as you realise that if the new wheel has function controls for items not fitted to your car it wont add them (paddle shift as an example). Be careful removing the Airbag (make sure the Battery is disconnected) then as long as the fixings and clock spring are the same it should fit OK Dave If it does need registering it isn't a complicated
