Morning all,would my  525d on 2004 plate be running well around town 30mpg on a run 70 mph ish 43 ,is the car doing well or what does it need any clues cheers

Sounds great to me but then my 4.6 V8 averages 18 mpg but if I try I can easily get it into single figures 😈😈

If you're thinking it's low, then when was it last serviced. Have you put any BMW fuel system cleaner through recently. What fuel do you buy, supermarket/branded etc. Are your tyre pressures correct. Do you use air con a lot.

no fuel cleaners or additives, best fuel, full service history, service is due soon but i will do this now as car is old 145ooo miles

It could be your right foot or maybe this is just what you can expect. Some BMW fuel additive can't hurt, cheap enough on ebay and from my own experience my X1 did feel smoother after.

I always found the best method for increased MPG is the close monitoring of the right foot extension 🙂

Also, keeping the car in tip-top condition with maintenance and also premium fuel (e.g. branded not supermarket) which is mostly around the same price nowadays

thank you all, just an update, full service and swirl flaps off. MPG mixed driving town and about 3 miles on dual carriage way and 12 in town , computer says 33.4mpg and averaging 17.6 mph , she gets a blast of 30 miles each way on motorway shows 44.5 ish, no smoke . i will take out egr fully and exhaust thing mdf ?, does not seem to roar away but is ok for 2.5 diesel i suppose, i was lucky with swirl flaps slight cracking ready to break off, i was told not to remap as gearbox would soon go not built for more than 400 nm, thank you all iwill repost new year when rest is done
