Just bought my first car, I’m having problems with the gas pedal not returning to idle, I lubed the throttle return spring, tightened the throttle cable, and it still won’t come back to normal, does anyone have any ideas on what it might be?

Hi Daniel....welcome to the Forum

Always nice to see an old school Beemer

Is it the pedal physically not returning to rest or is the revs that are not returning to idle?

If its just the revs and not a physical problem with the pedal movement then it could be a vacuum leak which is holding the revs up

I cleaned the throttle body today and reset the sensors in it, thinking that would help but the only thing that happened was my rpms lowered. I’m thinking it might have something to do with the spring at the top of the bar

Morning Daniel

Have you looked at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your vin in the search box and it will bring up your model.

You will find exploded drawings which may help in (a) knowing the peddle fitted was actually correct for the car (check part numbers) and (b) how it is fitted together.

Also as Trevor pointed out check all under bonnet parts as well

Good Luck

Dave
