My windscreen washers are not operating fully. On activating, they squirt only once central windscreen and then continue in a lower, smaller flow at the bottom while the lever stalk is still being pulled towards me. I can repeat the process several times but I only get literally one squirt central windscreen every time. What can be wrong?

Many thanks

There are filters at the pumps pickup in the reservoir they become clogged with a jelly like residue caused by certain windscreen washer mixes. The washer filters are easy to clean just look at www.realoem.com  check out the washer system drawing they will help in knowing where to look and what to do.

With my X5 there are 3 pumps so 3 filters, windscreen, rear screen and high pressure headlamp/windscreen. Once a year I take the wash reservoir out remove the pumps and clean the filters.

Hope this helps

Hi Dave

That certainly does help, many thanks. I have headlamp washers too but no rear screen (Convertible) so I guess I will have two filters.

Thanks again,

Martin

I've tried to use the link you sent me but I'm having difficulty finding the exploded views. Can you help please?

Our logic and that of the folks who put the site together are clearly at odds

I found this in the Electrical system folder for a 320d https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=8D12-EUR-07-2015-F30N-BMW-320d_ed&diagId=61_2896

Also try www.newtis.info for how too information link below

Good Luck

Emmo, just in case you are, DO Not mix BMW and aftermarket washer fluids. I don't know why BMW fluid reacts badly to others but it does. It'll set like Jelly. Sometimes it may be enough to push a hosepipe, carefully now, in to the bottle filler and give it a good rinse out but it's probably best practice to clean the filters.
