Hi looking if anyone has ever had the same issue,

I have had my 1 series 116i now 2012 reg for 3 years, no issues until recently I get the above message ‘drivetrain Malfunction full performance not available, drive at moderate speed’, this then puts me in ‘idle/limp mode’ This is occurring every 2/3 days on average, I pull over restart my engine and everything is okay and the car drives great again.

I have had 2 different mechanics have a look at it and they can’t find out what it is, the diagnostic tool isn’t showing them the issue.

would it be worth taking it directly to BMW, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hi Josh

Welcome to the Forum

This Fault is normally triggered by the DME having one or more parameters out of wack, could be fuel pump failing or blocked fuel filter, could be an injector fault or a throttle body issue, the list of "could be's" is long. The DME restricts performance to avoid engine damage.

You need a Garage or someone with BMW specific diagnostic software, a BMW Specialist would be best and much cheaper than a BMW Dealer there is a register of BMW specialist garages Google them find the one nearest to you and give them a call.

Good Luck

Dave
