Hiya

just question about the motor for the roof on E88. I managed to get to the PDC and Roof motor in the rear of my convertible only to find all under water 😔managed drain the water and seal were I think it’s coming in. I’ve ordered a new PDC but will I need to order a new motor for the roof as it’s stopped working and is absolutely soaking. Any help would be appreciated

Hi Kev

Welcome to the Forum

First I would check that all the drain holes are clear if the water build up was as you describe something was stopping it running away. I go around mine a couple of times a year and use piece of small spring type curtain support for net curtains and rod them through it's surprising how clogged they get.

For the motor have you tried drying it out thoroughly with a heat gun or hair drier then check the fuses and relays?

If you need a motor check www.realoem.com to make sure you have the correct part number then search the Net and contact the specialist BMW Breakers (cheaper than BMW Dealers)

Oh and Happy New Year

Hiya Dave

Happy new year to you to.

Ye I knew water pooled their but not this bad. But we had 3 days of heavy rain and the battery kept dying over night. All seems well now though. It’s my first winter with car last owner kept it garaged all the time so would not of had this problem. I’m going to dry it out and check relays and fuses. If you don’t mind we’re are drain holes?

Hi Kev

On the Convertible I would think they are pretty much like my X5 there are 4 in the boot area look like a rubber bung in the floor with a tube attached. If you look on realoem you should find the locations.

Good luck

Not posted on a forum before, but had to contribute and hopefully add some clarity to the regular issue I read about e88 roof motor failure and water ingress.  I’ve got a 2008 e88 120i, same issue as most with water logged motor, PDC damage etc, but found no issue with leaking back lights etc suggested by others.

Well I found the usual collection of water under the roof in the storage area (you can see the drainage channel if you get the roof half open and the rear lid up) but then went on a hunt on Google to try and find out where the channel exits, but found nothing.  After much head-scratching I removed the rear wheel arch liner and bingo, there it was, half-way up, the clogged rubber boot.  It seems the channel blocks, water collects in the storage area above and then on acceleration, a tide of water washes into the boat space where the motor sits.  I hope this helps someone else as I had no idea where the drain exit was.  I also replaced the motor for £40, well happy!!
