Just been to a BMW specialist for service + MOT. They showed me where there dipstick is, depsite BMW and their appointed dealers saying the engine dosen't have one!!

Its easily accessible under the bonnet, from the nearside of car. You don't need to remove the engine cover.

Yay bonus Richard

Be interesting to know just which engines have and haven't got them? Brother inlaws 535d touring 2018 hasn't got one but next time they visit I will have a dig.

Not sure about all engines, Dave. Mine is N57Z. BMW deny it has one as does a main dealer (Lancasters - Bury St. Edmunds).

My hand book says drive for 30 miles or 40 minutes (I think. Something like that, anyway) - then check oil level using IDrive, and with engine running. It shows an oil level gauge on screen!

Morning Richard

Same technique as the brother inlaw, the stupid thing is even after doing a few oil changes on his car I haven't checked !!!!! How amateur is that I will feel a real plank if there is one.

His current ride is a G31 B57 540d x driveΒ  ECU tuned 380 bhp and its an awesome bit of kit he had it de-badged so no one is sure what it actually is. Its covered 130k so far without issueΒ

My 2012 E93 325D has N57 engine and also has dipstick. Very reassuring to be able to check it regularly without relying on a sensor which could fail.
