Hi all, I have heard today that if I want a new tyre on my 2012 xdrive e70 I have to change all 4 otherwise the transfer box will be damaged. Is this true or just rumour?

Hi Reedie

Sorry bit late replying, it depends on how worn your other tyres are? This affects all AWD vehicle's the rolling radius of the tyres front and rear must be within the manufacturers tolerance or transmission wind up can occur which can damage the transfer case or a diff.

Providing the replacement tyre is (a) same size make/tread pattern and your existing tyres are around half worn you should be OK.
