Hi all,

been watching this group as an observer and finally decide to join.

im in Perth Western Australia, originally from Manchester UK, but left in 1990.

I have a 2006 X5 e53 3.0D which is my everyday car. I also use it to pull my caravan around the huge expanse of red dirt, which it does admirably. Of late she’s become a little demanding, understandable having 230,000 kms under her belt.

I like to work on her myself and at times find it frustrating, thanks to BMW engineering, but most of the time I enjoy it.

most recent project have been

the rear upper suspension

the front Radius arms

starter motor ( farmed this one out)

light / wiper sensor change

door handle carriers on both front doors,

and today, 4 new donoughts and a wheel alignment… ouch.

jobs left

sun roof replacement/ repairs ( found a 2nd hand complete unit for $150)

and… fix up the audio system. Previous owner ripped the old system and essentially ruined it.

thats me

G'day Andy

My X5 4,6is is now at 164k (260+ Km) over the years I have replaced the suspension twice (bushes only last around 80k) removed and cleaned and powder coated the rear subframe. Suspension when changing upper and lower rear arms here in the UK they are always rusted solid so I don't mess around reciprocating saw sorts the bolts and I always order new ones before starting.

Engine I rebuilt at 90k Gearbox Diffs and Transfer case serviced every 80k she runs really well but I am just retiring the old girl to preserve her (there are only 200 left in the UK)

The replacement is an E70 X5 3.0d with 110k

Seems you have covered most jobs so I guess you are up to speed with www.realoem.com a BMW online parts list and www.pelicanparts.com an American site with great how too's including pictures

Good luck with your ongoing project

Dave
