My 2012 F01 730D is lumpy when started. On investigation there is an error 28CE00 referring to the preheat control unit LIN missing. I assume the control unit is faulty rather than the glow plugs themselves.
On the assumption that the control unit is faulty, changing it seems simple enough.

The control unit has BMW pt no. 780015605 laser etched on it, BERU pt no. 0 522 140 102.
it seems that the BERU GSE 108 is the correct one but the associated BMW pt no. is BMW 12217800156. Does anyone know if the Beru  GSE108 is correct.
On fitting does it need to be registered/programmed.

My engine is 180KW.

Hi Dave

Welcome to the Forum

Beru were(still are) OEM suppliers don't dismiss the glow plugs really soak them in penetrating fluid if they are stiff take care breaking one is a Beeeech of a job sometimes.

Also check the loom as it isn't unheard of for these to chafe

Bit surprised they have been working with the way the weather has been

Good luck with the fix

If it were the glow plugs wouldn't I get a glow plug fault code?

Morning Dave

A friend of our son has a 1 series (140k) and last Nov/Dec had slow start problems (lots of cranking) I put the scanner on it (INPA/ISTA) and got no codes at all we checked the loom and he decided to change everything anyway. New controller and 4 glow plugs  and back to normal starts first turn??

Still learning about diesels my whole life has been spent with petrol, like Clarkson said "Fuel of the Devil" 🤣
