Hi Jimmie

Yes, in the UK I would contact Customer Services Classic section, I have also found a couple of BMW Dealers whose Parts Staff have helped a lot with difficult parts

Good Luck with the parts hunt

Dave

As an after thought we have a few specialist repairers in the UK who Test dismantle and repair all sorts of Automotive Control units

Worth a search as it would also preserve originality

Thank you Dave. I contacted the BMW Classic office. They don't have the part, but sent a few resources.

Do you have a contact in the UK?

I appreciate your help!! This is beginning to feel like a search for the holy grail....

Morning Jimmie

Try the website for contact details, the repair specialists I have used since the 90's and both have been superb. You must have similar in the US surely, if not worth emailing them and asking the question about repair.

The last you could try is BROSE the OEM manufacturer they may be able to help.

Thank you! I e-mailed Brose and will contact the other resources as well. Oddly enough, in the US several companies rebuild ECUs and some modules....just NOT this one! This has been a real challenge. I have spent several hours trying to remedy this problem. I appreciate your help.

Follow-up: Brose doesn't interface with private consumers, only retailers, and the UK BMW resource said they had no resources for help. The ECU testing firm is willing to give it a look, but has never repaired one. The BBA reman folks didn't reply.

Hi Wayne

Just had a look at www.realoem and several E24 models had the electric seat Module but they show as Bosch part numbers

01 Vertical seat adjuster electr.left   1 09/1983   52101917249 $329.18
01 Vertical seat adjuster electr.right   1 09/1983   52101917250 $329.18
03 Actuator vertical seat adjuster front BOSCH 2 09/1983   52101371904 $131.19   ENDED
04 Actuator horizontal adjustement BOSCH 2 09/1983   52101371906 $202.84
04 Actuator horizontal adjustement   2 09/1983   52101375452 $81.47   ENDED
05 Actuator vertical seat adjuster rear BOSCH 2 09/1983   52101371905 $131.1

Maybe worth checking with Bosch USA

Thank you for your research! The seats in the 88 M6 have several motors for seating positioning, plus modules for memory, switches for positioning, etc- probably Bosch. The master seat control module under the driver’s seat in the US module (and probably in the 635CSi) was this Brose unit. The picture of the label that started this thread is from my actual unit.

It’s hard to believe no one has decided to repair these- it appears to be a common issue in these older 6 series autos. This was apps the most advanced motorized seat BMW made at the time. It seems that there is some money to be made fixing these….

Guess what!? I just received a note from a vendor in Greece who had the correct Brose part number from a 635CSi (773-53977) and it had a Bosch imprint on it as well. It also had a slightly different Brose graphic- Brose Coburg. Definitely looks like the same box and configuration as my car, though there are superficial differences.

At any rate, I bought it...hope it works.

That's good news Wayne if it's OK that means you may have an opportunity to get the original repaired with no pressure.

Fingers crossed for you
