Handbrake holds most of the time, but not always.

Any suggestions as to where I might find part number 344 067747 98?

Tried the ebay shop and bmwautoparts.x61mj@aleeas.com

without success, part is no longer available.

Ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi Chris

If you aren't aware look at www.realoem.com (BMW Parts List) put the last 7 digits of your Vin in to the search box it will call up your model. Then search the brake section if you double click the part number it should show any alternative Part Numbers and Models they were used in

An alternative I have used on a 325i that had a handbrake not holding because the teeth on the quadrant had worn was 15mins with the welder and a file to build up and reshape the worn teeth. 3 years later it is still working fine (our Sons friend)

Stu is right about Quarry Motors but if they can't help try Googling BMW Specialist Dismantlers there are about half a dozen from memory worth an email or two

Failing, I am afraid.

Contact several breakers, including Quarry, searched ebay shops as well as parts Gateway, not available anywhere.

Looks like a need a welder with a file🙂

Hi Chris

Have you removed the lever from the car? I did read of a guy in the X5 Forum who just took a file to the worn teeth and it fixed his problem

All the hand brake mechanisms are all very similar in operation so try for say a late Z3 or an early 1 series. You may have a bit of adjustment needed for the mounting and the bowden cable attachment but it should be workable.

I am sure I read of a guy in the USA who used a 1 series handbrake lever in his Z4

If no joy then your welding skills are about to be tested 🤣

Hi Dave,

The garage, not a job I could have done, have now taken out the centre consol, removed the propshaft and exhaust and completed the repair. As you said, a file was needed.

The only problem that occurred was that the exhaust bolts sheared off when removing. Not looking forward to bill when I get the car back tomorrow. Mind it had to be done.

Many thanks all.
