Hi guys, I’m building a resto mod (no it’s not a BMW🤦) but it will be using a BMW engine & box.

My question is; I’ve got an electric steering rack from a ’59’ plate E87 2.0 petrol, as far as I’m aware it wasn’t coded off of the car.

Does anyone know if I will be able to wire the rack in a similar way that the rallying boys do with electric power steering columns from the Vauxhall Corsa & french poo Clio’s? If yes can anyone help me with this or point me in the right direction?

I know some may think just use the EPS column, but the BMW rack is a perfect fit (bump steer, Ackerman ect) plus the EPS racks are a bit rubbish.

Morning Robert

Welcome to the Forum

Sounds an interesting project

I did read an article about swapping EPS into a normal power steering BMW a few years ago. From memory it was fairly painless just requiring some Vin registering (not real coding) to allow the rack to operate with full servotronic function

I will try and find if there are any other information

Good Luck

Dave
