Hi All

I have just obtained a BMW 1 Series Convertible 2011.......and still can't stop smiling 😀

The third rear brake light has a perforated black mesh covering the red lens.................this is starting to deteriorate and peel off 😬

Can anyone advise if this an after market attachment, or can I buy an OEM replacement light with this feature already fitted?

I have done the usual online trawls, but with no joy.

I'd appreciate any advise.

Hi Paul

Welcome to the Forum

A quick check on realoem (BMW Parts List) shows Part Number 63257164978 for your Third brake light try googling the part number. Either your BMW Dealer should help (expensive) but Google or the Auction web sites (Ebay Amazon) should help or contact one of the BMW Specialist Breakers like Quarry Motors

Hi Dave

Many thanks for the quick response 🙂

Yes, I traced all the Pt No's listed as 65327164978......but all appear to be solid red without the mesh covering.

The black mesh covering appears to be easily removed....... I may do this to tidy things up; but I would then have the standard fitting Pt No 65327164978.

I was attempting to retain/replace, as the 'black' lens as a contrast to red paint work, which in my opinion looks more appealing than red on red 😝

I see there is a version of solid black lens which hopefully glows a clear red.......I may give it a go.

Once again, many thanks for your reply.

May be a previous owner used someone's tights and stuck a piece over the lens to get the effect 🤣

I've now found the reason for the black mesh........to cover a crack in the lens........light is full of crud

New replacement on order 😄

One last question on this topic 🤪..........does the new fitting need a gasket seal?

I cannot see any of the Amazon/Ebay sites offering one as part of the light fitting.

I know I will find out when I remove the old one, but did not want to remove the old one and then delay the replacement.

Cheers

Hi Paul

I thought they came with a sealing strip attached if not belt and braces put a bead of sealant around the back edge before fitting and clean off any excess 😆

Dave

PS. You could check on www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model, then check the light section
