Hi and heads up to all X1 owners of this generation!

I’d get rid as soon as possible!  Anyone with an X1 around this age is sitting on a time bomb in my opinion 

I have an X1 1995 diesel. My Drivetrain light came on but I had the recall letter re the EGR so I took it into BMW and they did a full health check. The fuel sensor (which BMW know is faulty by the way) had started forcing diesel through every sensor and lead and part of the engine you can imagine. The cost to repair would be thousands so basically my car is finished!  It has only done 48,000 had full service history and only one previous own!  Not what you expect from a supposedly high end manufacturer

Oh Dear 

First over the years there have been other similar instances (BMW don't make Sensors they buy them in) Temperature sensors leaching coolant which by cappiliary action allowed coolant to reach ECU plugs and now Fuel pressure sensors. BMW Dealers never fix/repair anything just Replace them normally at the customers cost ££££ I have read of many who have changed the faulty sensors cleaned the loom and allowed it to dry out with outstanding success.

So my advice if you can't DIY find a more realistic Mechanic or Garage either Independent or BMW Specialist clean things down and change the sensor rest things and see how it goes

Hi Dave

It’s had an independent health check and the advice is the same that it would cost too much. It is diesel  that is being pumped through so it is more difficult to get rid of. I was in told that not many parts in the engine are BMW genuine parts but they should still take the responsibility for parts they know are faulty in my opinion. 
I don’t think anyone could solve it. If there is someone out there who has dealt with this before and has successfully fixed it I would really appreciate there help!

Hi Sue

If diesel has reached the ECU then gathering as much evidence as you can (Google) from as many sources as you can to prove it isn't the unusual situation Dealers often pretend it is. Then try a letter to BMW UK asking for a solution with a copy to Rogue Traders. BMW didn't enjoy their last experience on the show and actually started helping customers

I hope you can find a sensible resolution
