Hi I currently own a BMW X5. 2008 M class.

It currently needs two injectors replaced. There is also a possible issues with the gear box as it seems to have lost its turbo charge when pulling away or shifting between gears. This could be linked to the injector issue but can't be fully diagnosed until injectors are fitted with engine running properly. Thing is the injector will cost around £2000. Garage are not too keen on going ahead fixing injector problem then maybe having to tell me I need to get a new gear box and turbo done also. Where would be best place to maybe access a gear box / turbo. As it stands I'm ready to scrap the car which is otherwise in great condition. I'm gutted obviously so any advice appreciated.

Regards

Whatever you do, don't rush into scrapping it if it's otherwise in good shape. Have you thought about getting a second opinion from another garage with BMW specialist? They might have a different take on the injector/turbo situation and could potentially save you some cash. Good luck, @Williamd! Let us know what you end up doing.

Morning William

Welcome to the Forum

First let us be clear which model we are talking about, my guess is 30.d with Msport trim is that correct ?

Next how was the diagnosis arrived at did the garage give you a print of the Diagnostic Scan showing faults and fault codes? What lights and warnings were on the dash and iDrive. What is the cars service history when was it last serviced? when if ever was the gearbox and drive train serviced ?

Last if you are not capable of a DIY fix then as Luke says you need at least a good Independent Garage or a BMW Specialist who will have the knowledge to properly diagnose and fix it. There is a Register of BMW Specialists so you should with Googles help find one near by

Thanks for this. I will keep you updated
