I have recently a "SOS call system failure" message appear on initial ignition switch on. Which having looked on Youtube could be due to water ingress into a unit mounted underneath the aerial fin on the roof. Just asking whether anyone else has had the same problem and what the outcome was. I'm considering just removing the message, more precisely having someone do it.

Hi Vic

Welcome to the Forum

If I recall it may be that the battery has died seen a few of them depending on the system and model. You should find the battery under a cover as part of the TCU in the boot left side behindthe trim. There are from memory 2  types of battery so either check with your BMW Dealer or check www.realoem.com yourself. That will save messing around with coding or paying someone to do it

Tried a new battery which seemed to fix the problem but after doing about 70 pls the message returned. Now wondering if the telematics unit is actually the cause of the warning message.

Morning Vic

Try taking the battery out and cleaning the contacts in the Telematic unit with a good electrical contact cleaner first.

While your in there get the part number from the Telmatic unit and check online for second user ones also worth contacting some of the repair specialists out there if they can be checked and repaired

Good Luck

Hi Greydog Can you recommend a source for a telematic unit. The electrician I used is due to return on Monday and I'll share the above with him.

Thanks for your help

Hi Vic

If you cant find the Part number on the Telematic unit in your car check www.realoem.com if you haven't used it before put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model or up to 2019 it will then search the sections for what you need. Your looking for the Part Number (your car or earlier when you have the part number double click it annd you should get a list of alternates and other models it was used on. Some of the BMW specialist Dismantlers like Quarry Motors would be a good starting point

Good Luck

HI Greydog

Electrician fitted the battery which lasted about 70miles then the warning reappeared. So problem persists.

I'm trying other sources to fix the problem, maybe a replacement telematics is needed but that's where I'm at presently.

Morning Vic

If the battery was new I believe it should recharge from the cars system so thats odd, unless it needs registering to allow recharging of course, or the telematic unit is toast.

If changing the Telematic unit try and source the same part number to avoid any registering issues

Good Luck

Dave
