The starter motor just clicks, BMW X1 (E84) xDrive
Hi, The starter motor has been replaced, the battery is new, the grounding braid between the engine and chassis has been replaced, but I still can't get power to the starter motor. It seems that the positive cable from the tailgate and the positive terminal in the engine compartment do not have sufficient contact. Are there any other joints along the way that you can't see? -

Cheers Mark for the info, have to thread carefully I suppose & make sure the car is straight before I dive in, parts like you say been expensive can be a sticking point but I'll see how it goes anyway -

Depends which model, i have the 640D and do about 15k a year, heavy traffic and i'll still get 40mpg by putting it in eco pro mode Parts can be expensive, servicing same as other cars really, oil could do with being changed every 8-9k miles to keep it healthy 6 series (F13) problem areas from my personal experience would be wheels (20" wheels can buckle or crack reasonably easy) brake discs, some suspension components, so i would go for a motorway test drive up to "motorway" speeds and check for vibrations and brake judder And yes look for a good service history as you would with any car -

Hi there just a question for the experts in the know. I'm looking to change my car after a very long time & would love something a lot more fancy & powerful than what I'm currently driving. The 6 series has long been my dream car but was always out of my reach financially but now is the time when it's finally within my reach, my question to ye guys is would the car be suitable as a daily driver or am I mad, My workplace is a good 35 - 40 min drive 5 days a week so mileage would be quiet high year on year..would I be wise to steer clear of high mileage cars? or once service history is good I should be safe enough? -

Morning Karl My money is still on the battery, simple test disconnect the battery fully charge it and leave it overnight if it looses charge that will confirm it The control unit by the battery is probably the PDC module. Water in the area doesn't help check the floor drains are not blocked (I guess your mechanic will do that) You could also check for a prasitic drain on the battery, battery fully charged car closed apart from the bonnet, let the car go to sleep (all systems off the tell tale by the gearshift will go out) then check at the under bonnet charge points for any discharge. There will be a small milli amp discharge clock etc, anything higher will need investigation Good luck Dave
