Morning Ian

Welcome to the  Forum

I have only heard of this once before and in that instance the actual Vanos had been damaged

Have tha Crank and Cam sensors been tested ?

Thanks Dave , the vanos were replaced by the garage and it’s still stuck , the frustration is that the car was actually running ok when it went in for repair, the garage is now dropping the subframe to get to the sump to see if any broken parts are causing issues in the camshaft - the daughter is a nurse and really needs a car , lessons learnt should have took it directly to a BMW independent specialist i think 😩
