With my pretty heavy right foot, I get an average of 40-42 mpg, but that’s only when motorway driving is involved, around town, usually 30-32 mpg. If I drive steadily 30mph in fourth gear, I get about 60 mpg on average.

I love not having DPF on my car.

  • i've only used mine around town at the mo and i'm seeing about 15mpg  might take it for a run on the motorway soon and see what it does then?? hopefully see a better figure there as its a 3.2

  • Your are correct, I must do a disclaimer here. This was conducted on my privately own peace of road, which the road traffic act does not apply. And even if it did, I would just ignore it and get on

It was 27 when i picked it up just over a week ago, and now its already dropped to 26! Its never gonna be very high driving it around Milton Keynes. Short journeys and lots of stop/start at the roundabouts.

I didn't buy it for fuel economy though!

I'm relieved to see your post, Daren. I looked through all the other comments a while back and ran away, because I average 26 too, and it does go up to about 35 on a run, but thats only a steady run up and down the M3 London and back, and as soon as I get inside the M25 it plummets down again!

21.5 mpg for me but that's what signed up for lol

That's good for an M3 ha! Guy at work rarely got more than 19mpg from his e46 M3.

And bear in mind that the E46 M3 is imo one of the best looking BMW's ever!!!

My 320d ED gets around 44-50mpg around town and about 67-73mpg on a run.

E61 530d tuned I average 42.2mpg but at a steady 55mph for a 80mile journey my average for that one trip was at 62mpg. bored out my brain though but worthwhile experiment. note I get better fuel economy from mainstream garages, BP, Shell etc and only get 38 from supermarket diesel. pay more but get further.

That's impressive for a 530d. Is the tuning a remap?

Bet it goes like a stabbed rat!!

Yes it is a remap, now up to 296bhp or thereabouts can't recall but close to 300 anyway with 500nm of torque. yes it does go like a stabbed rat when required.
