Hi - thinking of a 320d next looked them up and found the plethora of turbo failure and swirl flap failures filling up the net.

Question is, if I buy one and replace the breather and the swirl flaps for blacks will it all but eliminate the problems?

thanks

Hi welcome along.

I have a 320d 03 plate with 115k on the clock.

Also I got paranoid about swirl flaps, but a bit or further reading, its just paranoia.

But they will cost under £20 to replace if you do it yourself, not a hard job if your good with tools.

As for turbo, just good, regular services should keep it winding..

Go for it mate, the 2l diesel engine with 150 horses pulls like a train, I was very supprised.

Lots of torque too.

Lets us know if you decide to go for it.

From what I've heard, its the small screws on the throttle butterfly that loosen and create almighty hell in the cylinders... Common fault = yes... Change them = yes, why not?

Put a smidgen of thread sealer on all the fixings to make certain.

As for the breather, all I know is that some have modded the topmost part and added a small air filter (maybe a one way device), a little unsure...

Thanks all, it will be the 320d next - 150 horse and 45 mpg with £155 tax - and a good looking motor to boot

I'll be removing the swirl flaps and fitting blanking plates, from what I can work out theyre only there to cut power under traction control - not a biggie! and a vortex breather seems to solve the issue of it getting gunked up! I have seen some cracking examples for £3500 - £4000 lot of car for the money TBH

I paid just shy of 4k for mine, I'll never look back.

And its transferred me to diesels, 530d or 535d next lol

You wont be dissapointed.
