Some Advice Please

hi this is for my friend he has not long passed his test and bought himself a lovely bmw 116 05 plate. the adivce hes after is the water level ran low while he was on a back road he said a few warning lights came on but dosn't know what ones as hes a bit clueless anyway he said he stoped and went to check water level but when he opened it, it spat everywhere, he filled it up with water but then said when he went to start it up it took a while but got it going and ran home fine. the engine management light has stayed on the reason for the post would this be due to holding a fault? and need to be fully checked out ect any help would be greatful.

ps. he said when he was driving and the warning lights came on "hight temp" came up on the cd player disply??

Everyone is happy again...

So, what was the fault ?

was just because he ran it low on coolent and the warning lights came on so it was showing a fault but no faults were found on dynostics so battery off for half an hour bobs your anti :)
