318d or 320d

  1. 1. Buying a bmw diesel soon, need advice between 318d and 320d! all replies welcome!

Hi everyone, new to this, i'm going to buy a diesel bmw soon, and have looked at a few, i have found a nice 318d but i am curious as to what the differance is between that and the 320d???? all help welcomed

Welcome along.

You be supprised to find out (maybe not) the 318 and the 320 are both 2l engines.

2005-2007 318d's 120 bhp

2007 onwards 318d's 141 bhp

2005-2007 320d's 161bhp

2007-2010 320d's 175 bhp

Im not sure if they are actually the same engine, maybe the 318 detuned?

But my advice is go for the 320d..

Tax is the same as a 1.6 petrol and your going to get the near performance of a 323 petrol!!

My 2003 320d @ 150bhp, is only, I think 0.8 seconds slower to 60 than a 323 (2.5 litre)

And still returns over 55mpg?

I think you may be a little dissapointed with the 318, for pretty much the same price mate go for the 320d

      Can a VIN decoder really help me check a car’s history?

      Hi David Welcome to the Forum A Vin decoder is a useful tool as it lets you know what was on the original cars build sheet but that only tells you what toys it should have. As its a 2021 car it will have had one MOT which hopefully is clear of any advisories, you can check recall and MOT at www.gov.uk/check-mot-history Next check all tyres are correct and in good condition odd or mismatched tyres can cause havoc with Transfer cases Transmissions and diffs. The rest is History History History plus making sure everything works as it should Good Luck Dave

      Connectors in the boot next to the battery

      From Memory you have a Fuse box under the Bonnet, the main one behind the Glove box and one in the boot You should find a fuse layout folded in one of the boxes Fingers crossed it's a simple fix (Fuel Pump Relay) Good Hunting Dave

      Hi, Yes The air bag light is on. I have not heard of an emulator? It must be a device to turn the light off? The person that owned this before me was an older lady but maybe she had a mechanic do something to this? Thanks for your help, JayMe
