mondy Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi guys i was looking at my next car. i have always wanted a 5series just from the looks and size. but due to price it will probably be a 3 series. im looking at around £8k and not moon miles which seems quite hard as i dont want below an 06 reg. im looking for the best spec for price really dont just want a bog standard with no toys. can someone give me some advice on the diesel model. on the hp performance and mpg figs you get "realistically" not the claimed rubbish. also what sort of common faults. iv noticed something about swirl flaps and some other diesel manifold problem a big one. im looking at sellin a mondeo st tdci 06. just due to the fact iv had it 2 years and it has 2 major common faults so was hoping a bmer would be more reliable but from this swirl flap and other problem it just sounds like the same sort of diesel engined common pricely faults! all advice is welcome thanks guys Quote
andy-mcq Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 welcome to the club, the swirl flaps can brake or something and mess your engine up, apparently you can remove them or modify them. im sure some one else will no more. Quote

Mine is a 150bhp engine, returning 50+mpgThe newer models, the ones your looking at are 170bhp .As for swirl flaps, apprntly they get sucked into the engine and start breaking things as you can imagine, I havn't changed mine for blanking plates. And I think, the newer models have had this problem solved, but please check up on that.
