Hi, looking for some assistance here if possible please. My 2004 X5 3.0d emits large plumes of white smoke on cold start up, and when accelerating very hard emits clouds of black smoke!!

It has been suggested the oil seperator may be the culprit, can anyone shed some light on this please?

Many thanks

Bob

Does it start as it should from cold?

The black smoke issue could be either, a slight timing prob (sensor or pump) or even the EGR may need a good clean...

There are other things to clean out which will help too !!
