Hi all new to a BMW got a 320D Compact on a 53 plate last week its condition and history was its main selling point.

Having trolled the net it appears my first job to do is dump the swirl flaps. I see you can get blanking plates or can you to save the cash just unscrew the flap off and reinsert the body .

Cheers all

Kes :D

Cheers lads, Dabsy is that dump the lot or just remove the two screws and the flap, not that I'me tight but I cor see the point on wasting £50 on four bits of ally if the swirl bodies can go back in to do the same job .

Secondl Dabsy keep in case of what

The flaps are only open when car it idle with engine running, mainly to cut emissions.

Blanking plates will permanently close these, it will make no difference to performance.

That's correct, and it doesn't make any significant changes for the MOT (Emissions)!

When I say "Keep" I mean just put the parts in that box of spares that everyone should have

Thanks again for the welcome .

It appears I have to rip the manifold off to check the size of the blanks as with a Nov 03 build date it could be either size .

So I thought why not and sourced this to do at the same time .

Not to happy with the low (below 2000 rpm) rpm drivin it feels almost lumpy and today whaen leaving a junction it almost died . Dipped the clutch dabbed the pedal sorted it it does not have this problem first thing when the engine is cold.

It could be the ICV (Idle Control Valve) that is causing the stall, this can be cleaned or changed at low cost... This happened to me last year but on a petrol engine !
