If you are thinking of buying an X5 with 80,000 plus miles make sure all undercarriage bushes have been replaced had to have all mine done now and have been told by BMW specialist this is very common if not a guarantee they only got 80,000 mile lifespan .

Total cost for this is about £1,500

On the up side it drives like it just came out the factory.

Tell tale signs when test driving are knocking from rear end when putting foot down and when tacking foot off gas pedal at speed.also jolting when touching break pedal

Some of these bushes may have excessive wear but still pass MOT so be where you have been warned !!!

S**t mate that hurts mine has done 82000 no knocking will look at service record tomorrow that is a big spend.

Did you have to change all of them or could you have got away with a few

started at the front which made a better ride when breaking but still had knocking and jolting when putting foot on and off gas

so went back in to do rear.

the rear is more involved as they had to drop the back axle and tail pipes which is a few hours labour so while its off better to change them all

my sub frame bushes just passed MOT but when removed they were !Removed!

on the up side car drives like its fresh off the production line and good for another 80,000 miles.

these bushes being worn caused the gear box to get confused between first and second causing judder at low speed so also had to have soft wear reloaded
