hi all im new to bmw's so go easy on me lol

just got a:

1997

bmw 328i se (e36 i think)

was wondering if you could tell me if it is run on timing chain or timing belt????

and what engine code is it ???

have attached picture of engine

I'm sure it's an e36 & a chain, but Dabsy will need to confirm this, this is his area of expertise.

hope you dont mind me jumping in here sam, but i was wondering the same with mine. i have a 97 on a r plate and its a 316se

and was wondering if mines chain or not. for some reason i having a feeling it is but hope someone can confirm it please

I believe your motor has a Chain, Steve...

No worries... Keep on top of the servicing dude... As these can stretch too but not half as much bother as a poxy belt ;)

Not the earlier ones, Andy... Generally models after 1992 mate... Mercedes did a major eff-up by trying a belted unit in the late Nineties and the engine was given to science :D
