We have just had our first child and realised my wife's 1 series is not big enough for everything. We went looking at cars yesterday and were keen to look at a Nissan quashqai but the boots are quite small and they don't look that great. They are also 20k.

We then looked at a x5 3.0d on a 55 plate 80k fully loaded for 12k and it seems like a lot of a car for the money.

I know they drink fuel and eat tyres but are they really that bad?

My wife will be doing about 8-10k a year. We would look to keep it for a couple of years then sell it on.

Any advice would be good. I take it the facelift model is 04 on.

Thanks

Ok..

Pre 2006 X series..

= land Rover crossed with a 5 series..

Go for the full 5 mate, same kit, nicer, faster, more economical car

Not only that, Gav... The X5 is actually a SHITE off-roader lol

It was a big shame that BMW entered that area... Should've concentrated more on what they have !!!

Thats true Gav... And guess what else?

They are going to discontinue the straight-six !!

Very SAD DAYS ahead... Who the ##### is in control there?

I really don't mind the "tunnel" for the prop-shaft !!

I will say this tho I been shooting today and got a very relaxing 130mph cruse up the motorway with five adults and then drive about two miles into the woods with no problems and with a reading of 21mpg there's not many cars you can do that in

Owned a Daihatsu Fourtrak for 16 years (regretted selling it)

Owned a Nissan Qashqai for 1 year (bought new then sold it - good riddance)

Owned a Honda CRV for 2 years (still have it next best vehicle to the Fourtrak)

Bought an 05 X5 3.0D in August this year, first BMW we have owned - finally the perfect vehicle!

No contest X5 wins so much for so little - average 30+mpg(drive it carfully), safety, 4wd,all the equipment you need, no contest
